Here’s a sample feed zone itinerary for LOTOJA so you can have an idea of how to plan things. Everyone’s food and drink preferences are different so make sure you have things planned out and your support crew knows what you want and when. Stick to what you know works for you and don’t get too extreme from what you’ve been using in your training rides. Most will probably find themselves stopping briefly at the feed areas but typically the faster categories grab a musette bag and go (they don’t stop). Here’s a link to some sample feed bags:
http://www.supafan.com/misc.htm
They’re easy to make or you can pick some up at the shop. Most will do about 6,000-7,000 calories for LOTOJA so keep that in mind. You won’t be eating that much on the bike but you’ll probably take down about 4,000-5,000 calories on the bike or more. Every feed zone has the general necessities (water, Gatorade, bananas, etc) if you happen to miss your feed support (for example, you beat your feed crew to the feed zone). Last yr the neutral zone on Strawberry and Salt River was doing hand ups for those riding through (not stopping). Most just grabbed one maybe two bottles at those zones. Have your feed person wear a shirt, jacket, vest, hat, something that’s easy for you to pick out in the feed areas. This will be helpful for Preston and Montpelier where the crowds are huge. As the day progresses the number of people in the feed areas drop so it’s not as crazy. Keep spare clothing in the car just in case you need to make any changes due to weather. Ibuprofen can be a great friend along w/ chamois crème. I normally just tape ibuprofen to my stem so I don’t have to fumble w/ it in my pocket. There’s not much for food at the end of the race so think ahead if you want your feed to bring you a coke, sandwich, or whatever at the finish line since it might be awhile until you get dinner. Make sure your tires are good for the race and not overly worn. Take care of any bike maintenance issues this weekend so you don’t have to worry about that last minute.

Tommy
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a nice spring break.
Eric will be covering a lot of stuff tomorrow at the club/team mtg but here are a few things from my end. My road/mtn cycling class begins this Wed at 2:30pm in front of the HPER. This has become a group road ride for many of you so stop by. I’ll be leading out the mtn bikers (I have no clue where we’ll go to find dry dirt) but there’s about 5-6 roadies in class. The weather has been nice so hopefully we’ll continue to see similar temps.
I’m still teaching the noon spin class in the field house for those who want a quick workout at lunch. It’s been slowing down with the better weather but I’ll be there Mon-Thurs for those who want to drop in. On some days I’ll probably head out on a road ride following spin (around 1:30ish) so I’ll let you know on which days I’m planning to do that.
I haven’t seen the official TNR release but tomorrow should be the 1st Tuesday Night Ride. I would assume they would leave around 5pm from the Sports Academy. As the light increases the time will be pushed back to 5:30pm. These are great group rides. They are fast and sometimes harder then some of the races you’ll do. They have two groups. An ‘A’ and ‘B’ pack. The ‘A’ pack is a full on assault. The ‘B’ group is slower and leaves just behind the ‘A’ group. There’s another group that rides out of Hyde Park but I haven’t heard from them yet. It’s a more controlled ride where they wait for riders. Break out your ‘Blues’ and lets have a little fun tomorrow.
I hit the RMR crit on Sat and may race it again this week. I know many of you are headed to Grand Junction but if anybody is around and wants to do a quick run to SLC let me know. I saw Alex (from the U) and a handful of his teammates along with some BYU riders. I know Alex and the U will be traveling to Grand Junction this weekend. I’m not sure what BYU is doing. They were too worried about talking trash to the U so I never spoke to them. BYU cycling reminds me of their hockey team. Yes, Utah State destroyed them.
Hopefully I’ll see you guys tomorrow for some TNR fun.

Hi everyone,
This email is about two things:
1) chiropractic services with Dr. LeFevre (LAST CALL)
2) the bike safety fair at Woodruff Elementary
Chiropractor
If you are a registered team member interested in chiropractic services then I have 10 cards for a free consultation. I would like to distribute them fairly to those who desire Dr. LeFevre’s help. He says that pro-teams all have a chiropractor on staff. I hope anyone who has experience with Dr. LeFevre or chiropractic services can chime in. He will also do a bike-fit session for $150; I don’t have any free discount cards for that. Bike-fit is such a finicky thing and it is worth having some kind of trained, experienced advice. So please contact me if you want one or two of those cards. I might be able to give you more if I don’t get many responses to this email. I might use all 10 if no one responds at all.
Bike Safety
This spring, local schools will be having a bicycle safety week. This can end up being a service/fund-raising/major-public-visibility kind of event. Schools will have some awareness activity and send children home with materials to review with their parents. I have secured a spot as the major event with the Woodruff Elementary bike safety fair. We can create our own awareness handout to include in the packets sent home with students (the handout would be printed at the local PTA/school expense). We can ask a local bike shop to sponsor our bicycle safety advocacy and we will place their logo on the handout. We just need enough club/team members involved to commit to the May 1 (last day of finals week). I have received a lot of verbal commitment from half a dozen team members but I want to get some names of people with which I can plan this thing. We’ll bring camera equipment to document the event and we can create a promotional CD that we can distribute to more schools and potential event-sponsors next year; in addition, we can bid for a date earlier in April. So this is kind of a pilot service and I hope it can work out. Please contact me if you are interested.

I just received the weekend report from Ram and the crew. It sounds like Shane and Payden did well in their first races of the season. Unfortunately Ram took a curb head on and crashed out and is nursing a sore hand.
The weekend report is online here - https://www.usacycling.org/results/index.php?permit=2009-512
We have a lot of racing coming up so it’s time to start planning ahead. Sat, March 7th will be the first RMR in SLC. This is a local crit series that costs about $7 a race. During the month of March they are held every Sat and rotate to Tues for the rest of the season beginning in April. These are a great way to get some race experience close to home. The collegiate season is full on now and you can check our conference schedule at: http://www.rmccc.org/
One race that needs to be highlighted, bolded and underlined on everyone’s calendar is Conference Finals on April 25th hosted by Utah. This will be a great event requiring little travel. Also check out www.cyclingutah.com for local events. The Utah season heats up in April with another great local race held in early May, the Bear Lake Road Race. It’s exciting to think spring is around the corner and daylight savings isn’t far off (Sun, March 8th). From what I hear the local Tues Night Rides will kick off after daylight savings (weather dependant) so watch for info on that. Typically they go off at 5pm in the early season and fall back to 5:30pm as daylight increases.
Keep those wheels turning!
Tommy

Hi everyone,
Tomorrow (Sat) is the Tour of California. I have secured the Springs
community center (Spence and I live there), the big screen, and the
massive community room; we just need everyone to come. The tour will
be broadcast form 3pm – 5pm. We have the room from 2:30pm – 5:30pm. We
will spin our brains out while we watch the race.
This is what you need to bring:
a trainer
a bike
a water bottle (or two)
a supply of your own goodies, lunch, whatever
a cardboard strip or plastic trash bag to go under your trainer and bike

Hey Team,
Today Lisa and I hit up the HD3 radio station on campus. This is the student run radio that they broadcast from the 3rd floor of the TSC. If you didn’t get listen so sorry. We answered some questions and listened to some rocking music. Listen to the station when you get time. They are al really cool peeps there.
Hello Team,

The meeting tonight was great. We had a nice turnout of most of the team.
For those of you who could not make it we talked about the race calendar for the spring season and have plans to attend all the races.
Along the lines of others things that are on the schedule…
Keep a tab on the team calendar too..
Eric
Hey Team. We finally have our training schedule in order. We will be training Monday – Thursday from 7pm to 9pm. There is a spin class that will be meeting before us and they do not finish until 7:30. We must be respectful of them and not interfere. We will see how that class is going and maybe we can go in early. The first 30 minutes will be taken up doing some other things also. On Monday and Wednesday we will be lifting before the ride. This will take the time before the spin room is available.
We have some great work outs coming down from Coach Tommy so come ready to work hard.
The team calendar has been updated too !!
The race season starts Feb. 28th…. are you ready?!?!
Below is a link to the Rocky Mountain CCC web page and also the race calendar. Take a moment to look at the calendar and if you have not looked over the rule book then please do.

The same schedule has also been updated in our club calendar.
